Firmly Rooted in tradition, at home in the present

A deeply rooted philosophy

The Artifex is a place where traditions are lived. Old recipes and traditional processing methods are brought into the here and now with great devotion. New interpretations arise all the time, yet always keeping our roots well in mind. A past which is perceived as a meaningful source of power. After all, it is our origin.

Every member of the kitchen team is very committed and, most importantly, dedicates heart and soul to everything they do. A strong community that creates authentic stories. Stories, written as dishes and served with affection.

“The connection to and appreciation of my roots, which my family handed down to me as a child, is what drives me to lovingly create traditional culinary dishes.”

Tina Marcelli
Chef de cuisine

The three pillars

of the Artifex

Chef Tina Marcelli reveals the most important ingredients for her perfect blend of values. Being close to nature, the emphasis is on cherished traditions, a strong community and practised sustainability.

For the love

of tradition

Love is the essential ingredient and deeply embedded in the Artifex’ DNA. The heart of every Artifex family member beats for cooking and traditions. Tina was introduced to the secrets of the family recipes by her grandmother and father from an early age. Secrets which she treasures to this day, adding a piece of history and memory to every single dish.

Powerful as a team

Tina Marcelli always knew very clearly that her team takes center stage as a community, almost as a family. Cohesion and the striving for common goals is what also characterises the food. A feeling of togetherness and friendliness - which is palpable among the guests at the Artifex.

Pure treasures

Tina has been familiar with traditional fermentation and preservation techniques since she was a child. Techniques, which are now being revived as a result of an ever-increasing focus on sustainability. With a keen sense for nuanced flavours, seasonal produce is preserved through fascinating processes. And sometimes they are also transformed into a completely new type of flavour.

Nomen est omen

The name of our restaurant is no coincidence. The term “artifex” came into use in the Middle Ages and Renaissance. It describes a masterful work, someone who devotes himself skilfully to the visual arts without relying on sophisticated techniques or resources. The artifex created both beautiful and functional things in a humble and always collaborative manner. Tina Marcelli and her team likewise work jointly and masterfully on impressive works of culinary art, thus becoming artifices in their own profession.

Tina and her mentor
share one vision

Peter Mader, owner of the Feuerstein, aims at creating a holistic experience for the entire family. Culinary highlights for parents are an essential part of this. It is therefore a wonderful match that Peter, who also happens to be her biggest critic, is Tina's mentor. As a regular at the Artifex, he knows her menu inside out and drives her to ever more outstanding creations.
